    Dr. Mohamed Elrayess obtained his PhD in Cardiovascular Genetics from University College London (UCL) in 2003, and then worked in industry for eight years as a scientist at Eisai, an international pharmaceutical company, in London (2004–2012), focusing on biomarker and drug discovery, before moving to Anti-Doping Lab Qatar as Senior Scientist (2012–2019), where he pioneered biomarker discovery for athletic performance and metabolic syndrome. Since joining Qatar University in 2019, he has advanced through key leadership positions, including Research Associate Professor at the Biomedical Research Center, Acting Director of Research and Graduate Studies, Section Head, and Director of Basic Research for the Health Sector. In these roles, he has elevated the university's biomedical research by spearheading strategic initiatives, fostering interdisciplinary projects, and building high-impact collaborations in applied biomedical science. He has secured more than 15 million QAR in competitive research funding, published over 120 peer-reviewed articles, filed several international patents in biomarkers, screening assays, and metabolic therapeutics, and received the Qatar University Research Excellence Award 2025 in Medical, Biomedical and Health Sciences.
