    The 2023 International Virtual Conference: Recent Trends in Science and Mathematics Education and Learning

    Conference Concept 

    As part of NEDC’s commitment to fostering regional and international educational collaboration, the Center partnered with the Educational Research and Development Center at the Palestinian Ministry of Education to organize this joint international virtual conference. 
    The event addressed the growing global and regional focus on enhancing science and mathematics education, particularly through the STEM approach and international assessment programs such as PISA and TIMSS. 

     

    Overview 

    The conference highlighted the significance of science and mathematics education as key pillars for educational quality and innovation. It provided a platform for educators, researchers, policymakers, and teachers to share insights, showcase best practices, and explore contemporary trends in teaching and learning. 
    Participants included university faculty members, school leaders, supervisors, and graduate students from across the Arab world and beyond. 

     

    Objectives 

    General Goal 
    To provide researchers and educators with opportunities to share innovative ideas and successful experiences aimed at advancing science and mathematics education and utilizing international studies to inform policy and educational reform. 

     

    Specific Objectives 

    • Present diverse classroom practices in science and mathematics education. 

    • Offer programs for developing and preparing science and mathematics teachers. 

    • Apply the STEM approach to teaching and learning. 

    • Provide participants with research-based models linked to educational policy and practice. 

     

    Main Themes 

    1. Classroom practices in science and mathematics education. 

    1. Preparation and professional development of science and mathematics teachers. 

    1. Emerging trends in implementing the STEM approach. 

    1. Studies related to international assessments and their impact on science and mathematics education. 

     

    Target Audience 

    Educational leaders from ministries and schools, university faculty members, researchers, science and mathematics teachers, supervisors, lab technicians, and graduate students, as well as parents and community members interested in STEM education. 

     

    Activities and Sessions 

    The conference featured: 

    • Keynote speeches by distinguished speakers. 

    • A main panel discussion on global trends in education. 

    • Six virtual concurrent sessions covering the four main themes through research presentations, posters, and workshops. 

    • Interactive training sessions to exchange best teaching practices. 

     


    Expected Outcomes 

    • Enhanced participants’ understanding of STEM and global developments in education. 

    • Improved classroom practices and teacher preparation using practical approaches. 

    • Updated curricula and teaching strategies that foster active learning. 

    • Strengthened professional collaboration among educators. 

    • Recommendation to organize the conference annually and expand international participation.
