Researchers exchange various types of materials with their peers and colleagues throughout the world. Most of the time, the materials are exchanged without an agreement between the researchers, exposing our researchers and University to potential legal liability.
Outgoing material
Researchers who intend to transfer materials to their colleagues at other institutions must consult the Office of Research Support before the transfer takes place, so that their publication and potential intellectual property rights are protected
Incoming material
Researchers receiving materials from their colleagues at other institutions will probably be asked to sign a MTA. The MTAs are designed to limit the receiving researchers’ publishing and intellectual property rights. Therefore, these agreements must be forwarded to the Office of Research Support immediately.
Please note that researchers are not authorized to negotiate or sign agreements on behalf of QU. Please do not attempt to negotiate MTAs with other institutions or your colleagues.
