Position: Postdoctoral Associate Researcher

Dr. Araujo is a marine scientist and conservationist. He has work with an array of marine megafauna species, including dolphins, turtles and sharks. He spent the last 13 years working on the Endangered whale shark, contributing to its global knowledge, its management strategy development and implementation, and completed his PhD on whale shark ecology. His work covers different aspects of marine science including genetics, telemetry, ecology and biology. In 2020 he founded the UK-based charity Marine Research and Conservation Foundation (MARECO) that works closely with partner nonprofits, academics, research groups and governments globally to address conservation priorities, using umbrella species such as sharks to safeguard our marine environment’s future. He is a member of the IUCN SSC Shark Specialist Group and a 2017 Kinship Conservation Fellow. In 2022 he joined Qatar University as a Postdoctoral Associate Researcher to work on a collaborative project to understand the whale sharks of Qatar.
